HPG men recover SUV of missing Taiwanese businessman
A SPORTS Utility Vehicle owned by a 47-year-old Taiwanese businessman who has been reported missing since last October 10 has been recovered by the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group and is now being subjected to a forensic examination, the Journal Group learned yesterday.
The 2022 red Volkswagen T Cross with plate no. NFK 9019 was found abandoned for nearly a month by its unidentified driver along the northbound direction of the Southern Luzon Expressway’s Sta. Rosa Toll Plaza Exit.
SLEX security men got suspicious of the SUV’s long presence in the area and towed it last November 20.
An investigation conducted by the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A showed that the SUV was found without an ignition key, its windows slightly opened and its doors unlocked, said PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. William M. Segun.
However, the official said that their investigation has been hampered by lack of CCTV recordings in the area.
It turned out that the CCTV footages of the SLEX have already expired and could not be retrieved anymore due to its expired storage period.
It was due to the extended time that had passed since the SUV was abandoned in the area.
The vehicle is registered under the name of the missing Taiwanese national identified as Kuo Wen Hung, a resident of Multi-national Village in Moonwalk, Parañaque City.
An alarm was raised for the interception of the SUV, which was reported missing along the Batangas and Tagaytay City areas last October 10.
Segun said that the Regional Highway Patrol Unit 4-A headed by Col. Rommel Estolano has joined the investigation into the missing Taiwanese following the recovery of the vehicle.
A check with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) showed that the SUV was registered under the name of Kuo Wen Hung, a resident of Parañaque City since last year.
The PNP-HPG said that a female caretaker of the Taiwanese national’s house claimed that last October 10, the latter went to Batangas area and somewhere in Tagaytay City to attend Taiwan’s Independence Day celebration.
When he failed to return home, his family led by his wife who is based in Taiwan, reported the matter to the Batangas police. The missing Taiwanese national’s wife said she could not contact his phone anymore since last October 10.
The woman said that after he went missing for several weeks, the family of the Taiwanese national officially declared him as missing and posted his photographs and other details on different social media platforms as they searched for clues that will lead to his safe return.
The RHPU4-A said that the identification cards of the missing Taiwanese bore photos which appeared to be different compared to his other pictures. Thus, the unit advised the caretaker to asked his employer’s family to bring other documents that will help in the ongoing investigation.
Before he went missing, the Taiwanese national posted on social media a video and his “selfie” with Taal Volcano in the background.
The PNP Anti-Kidnapping Group has been asked by the Taiwan mission in Manila to investigate the case.
