A LEFT-LEANING party-list lawmaker on Tuesday sought a congressional investigation into the disclosure of US-based expert that hundreds of Chinese ships in the West Philippine Sea have been allegedly dumping human waste, sewage and waterwaste in the area for several years.
House Assistant Minority Leader and Gabriela Women’s Party Rep. Arlene Brosas said it is imperative for the House leadership to conduct a full-blown hearing as the incident has been causing massive marine damage to certain parts of the West Philippine Sea.
“Is this Beijing’s disgusting toast to Duterte’s piece of paper remark on the Hague ruling, by allowing its vessels to dump human waste on West Philippine Sea? This is perhaps the most visually brazen mockery of our sovereignty,” said Brosas after learning the problem from the report of Liz Derr, founder and CEO of Simularity, which specializes in geospatial analysis and provides satellite data imagery.
According to Derr, the Chinese ships have been unloading daily raw sewage for several years on reefs, creating harmful Chlorophyll-a blooms in the waters of the mineral-rich portion of the West Philippine Sea.
“An immediate House probe should be in order. We will file a House resolution to investigate the findings made by US-based tech firm Simularity on the dumping of feces on the portions of the West Philippine Sea,” Brosas explained.
Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Eufemia Cullamat slammed Chinese vessels on human waste dumping in the West Philippine Sea
Protektahan natin ang ating soberanya,” Cullamat pointed out.
