TWO more lawmakers on Thursday called on the Filipino nation to “rally behind” President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Romualdez Marcos, Jr. in his bid to help the country recover from the pandemic and address various concerns of Filipinos.

1-Pacman Party-list Representative Mikee Romero and Bagong Henerasyon Party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera said now “is the time to work together for the Filipino nation.”

“It is time to rally behind the goals and aspirations laid out in the inaugural address of President Bongbong Marcos. If we want to help our country recover from the pandemic, high inflation, and high fuel prices, we cannot fail the Filipino people. We must back up by 200% our new leader! His success is everyone’s success. We cannot let him fail,” Romero said.

“It is time to put in place the building blocks of the country’s strategic fuel reserve, which I have long proposed so that when fuel prices subside and stabilize, that would be the time to inject the fuel reserves into the facilities and system built for the purpose,” Romero said.

“Crucial to the food self-sufficiency objectives of the new administration, we must build an efficient commodities market and trading system, including its component storage depots, accountability and transparency mechanisms, and the commodities exchange,” he said.

For her part, Herrera said, “we would like to express our heartfelt congratulations to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on the occasion of his inauguration as the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines.”

“We are extremely confident that under his guidance and leadership, the government will pursue effective ways to address the challenges the country is facing, such as COVID-19 and its economic fallout, unabated fuel price hikes, and rising inflation triggered by the Russia-Ukraine conflict,” Herrera said.

“We also join the entire nation in wishing him success in fulfilling the most challenging task of healing our deeply divided country. President Marcos campaigned on bringing people together, working across the aisle, and uniting our nation. The Marcos administration can count on us for unwavering support in pushing for much-needed and meaningful laws that would be beneficial to our countrymen, particularly those that would further promote the welfare and rights of women and children; empower the micro-small and medium enterprises or MSMEs; and champion consumer protection, efficient internet, and economic recovery,” she said.
