House sets canvass of votes for prexy, VP

IT’S all systems go for the national canvassing.

House Secretary General Mark Llandro Mendoza announced that Speaker Lord Allan Velsasco will head the House contingent sitting as National Board of Canvassers.

The members will be Majority Leader Martin Romualdez, Cavite Reps. Boying Remulla, and Abraham Tolentino, Pampanga Rep. Rimpy Bondoc, Marikina City Rep. Stella Quimbo, Ilocos Sur Rep. Christina Meehan, and AAMBIS-OWA Rep. Sharon Garin.

The NBOC will formally begin the canvassing of votes for the presidential and vice presidential candidates on May 24.

All the ballot boxes containing the certificates of canvass and election returns from the Senate in Pasay City to the House of Representatives in Quezon City in the early morning of May 23.

Upon resumption of session on May 23, the Senate and House will convene as the NBOC which is tasked to canvass the votes of the presidential and vice presidential candidates.

After the final canvassing, the NBOC will also proclaim the winners for top positions.

Based on the schedule released by the House of Representatives, the canvassing proper will begin on May 24, at 2 pm. And from May 25 to 27, canvassing will be from 10 am to 10 pm.

Velasco said that canvassing will not be prolonged because of the automation system.

He said that they will proclaim the winners not later on May 27.

Due health protocols, the plenary session is limited to public as only 460 persons will be allowed to be physically present. The number includes the Senators and Representatives, their staff, lawyers and media. By Jester Manalastas
