Hot start by San Miguel, Fajardo
JUNE Mar Fajardo is back to his usual deadly self.
Three days after bagging his eighth PBA MVP award, Fajardo posted a monster double-double performance with 37 points on 14-of-18 shooting and 24 rebounds in San Miguel Beer’s 111-107 victory over Phoenix Super LPG in the PBA Season 49 Governors’ Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Fajardo teamed-up with import Jordan Adams and CJ Perez as they combined for 82 points.
Adams finished with 24 points and nine rebounds while Perez had 21 points, including a dagger four-point shot with 56 seconds left.
Jason Perkins and Ricci Rivero paced the Fuel Masters’ losing effort with 18 and 15 points, respectively.
Import Jayveous McKinnis had 13 points and 13 rebounds.
In the curtainraiser, Scotty Hopson fired 46 points to lead Converge to 127-95 win over Terrafirma Dyip.
Hopson went 18-of-24 from the floor, including a perfect 3-of-3 from the four-point territory on top of eight rebounds, three assists and two blocks in 34 minutes of action.
Alec Stockton added 21 points and Deschon Winston and Justin Arana contributed with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
Stanley Pringle paced the Dyip with 19 points and seven assists in 36 minutes of play.
Antonio Hester and comebacking Kevin Ferrer had 18 points each.
Hester also had 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Terrafirma also got 17 points and six rebounds from Christian Standhardinger.
