Homelessness in PH
IT IS said that one of the country’s major problems, along with poverty, hunger, illegal drugs and rising prices of goods, is the skyrocketing number of homeless Filipinos.
That’s why we doff our sun-blest hat to President Marcos for closely monitoring the progress of the national government’s multi-pronged flagship housing project.
The “Pambansang Pabahay Para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program” is under the auspices of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
DHSUD Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar said Marcos, whose six-year presidency ends in 2028, “is very focused and hands-on” in monitoring the progress of the program.”
Almost every week, the Presidential Management Staff calls on the DHSUD to inquire “kung ano na po ang nagagawa namin sa aming departamento, lalo na sa pabahay,” said Acuzar
“Nakita na po natin yung solusyon para sa kakulangan ng pabahay (sa bansa), at ang atin pong Pangulo ay nakatutok po rito,” according to the top honcho of DHSUD.
Another proof of Mr. Marccos’ dedication to look after the welfare of homeless Filipinos is his untiring efforts to inspect ongoing housing projects across the country.
Just last Monday, the Ilocano chief executive inspected the ongoing construction of the Crystal Peak Estates in Barangay Del Carmen in San Fernando City in Pampanga.
The project is seen to benefit 10,200 homeless families in the public and private sectors, including overseas Filipino workers and personnel of local government units, PNP and AFP.
As envisioned, the 4PH program aims to address the current 6.5 million housing backlog by constructing one million affordable dwelling units annually until 2028.
It’s a gigantic undertaking, but it is not an impossible mission.
