Holdupper posing as taxi driver killed in shootout

A ROBBERY hold-up suspect posing as a taxi driver was killed during an encounter with policemen Sunday before dawn in Taguig City.

Southern Police District (SPD) Director P/BGen Jimili Macaraeg said Ryan Rizaga Guanieso died on the spot from gunshot wounds in the body after he engaged responding elements of Taguig Sub-Station 1 in a shootout at around 1:50 a.m. along C5 Sampaguita West Service Road fly over in Fort Bonifacio BGC in Taguig City.

Investigation conducted by P/EMSgt. Rodelio Abenojar showed that earlier, Jopeth Calma, 20, painter and resident of 2231 Sobriedad Ext. Sampaloc, Manila boarded the suspect’s taxi from Gate 1 of AFPOVAL, Bayani Road, Western Bicutan and asked to be brought to Bonifacio Global City (BGC).

While passing along American Cemetery circle, the suspect pulled over, pointed a gun at Calma and divested his wallet and mobile phone before asking him to alight from the cab.

When the suspect sped away, the victim sought the assistance of Pat. Christian Decapia and Pat. Elson Calupas of BGC Sub-Station 1 who were conducting routine patrol in the area on board a motorcycle.

After the victim gave the suspect’s description and plate number of his driven taxi, the cops gave chaseuntil he was cornered along C5 Sampaguita West Service Road.

Instead of surrendering, the suspect allegedly pulled out his gun and engaged lawmen in a shootout that resulted in his untimely death.
