TWO high-ranking couple and members of the New People’s Army (NPA) in Caraga region on Saturday surrendered to operatives of the Police Regional Office 13 (PRO13) following a series of negotiations, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Dionardo B. Carlos said on Monday.

Citing a report from PRO13 director, Brig. Gen. Romeo M. Caramat Jr., the top cop identified the two thru their rebel monikers, as “Ka Wendel”, 37, and “Ka An-an”, 32.

The man was described as a full-time member of the CPP/NPA North Central Mindanao Regional Committee’s Guerrilla Front 4 where he is known as an NPA team leader. On the other hand, “Ka An-an” was said to be an NPA squad medic.

The two surrendered to officers of the 1304th Maneuver Company of the PRO13’s Regional Mobile Force Batallion and the 1st Agusan del Norte Provincial Mobile Force Company, said Brig. Gen. Caramat Jr.

Gen. Carlos said that “Ka Wendel” is also a brother of one “Ka Baking”, the commanding officer of the NPA’s Guerrilla Front 4-A operating in the provinces of Agusan del Norte and some parts of Misamis Oriental.

He said that the two decided to yield to the PRO13 authorities to reunite with their families and live a normal life since it would be next to impossible for them to achieve those things if they remained in the armed rebel movement.

The couple is now being processed by the PRO13 to enable them to avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) in the region which has already resulted in the surrender of scores of NPA guerrillas and their sympathizers/supporters since last year.
