UNKNOWN assailants shot the couple onboard an SUV with their children while parked along the street near the corner of Laurel and J. Trinidad Streets in Bgy. Pob. 5, Talisay, Batangas, the other day.
Police Major Elmer B. Aguila, Talisay town head cop, said the victim who died instantly was identified as Restituto Petate, 49, married, business owner, and his wife Rowena Petate, 45, both residents of Bgy. Miranda, Talisay.
A concerned citizen informed Talisay Police personnel that a shooting incident transpired at Bgy. Pob. 5, Talisay and immediately dispatched and proceeded to the scene.
Case officers PSMS. Larry P. Jumarang and P/Cpl. Nelson L. Cabuso, Jr.’s initial investigation showed that at about 7:20 p.m., Petate, while inside a Toyota Fortuner Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) together with his wife Rowena and their two children, parked their SUV near the corner of Laurel St. and J. Trinidad St. in Bgy. Pob. 5, Talisay, when the two unidentified suspects armed with an unknown type of short firearms suddenly appeared on both sides of the vehicle.
One of the suspects shot Petate, hitting him in the head, and died instantly.
Rowena, who was in fear, quickly alighted from the vehicle to escape, but the other suspect shot her once but missed. The suspect quickly fled in an unknown direction.
CCTV (closed-circuit television) camera footage showed that one of the suspects was wearing a white T-shirt, a green cap, and short pants, while the other suspect was wearing long green sleeves and a black bull cap.
A continuous hot pursuit operation is being conducted by the said station and immediately requested the activation of the iron curtain with the nearby municipalities for possible arrest of the suspects.
The investigation is still ongoing to determine the motive behind the incident. Likewise, the station also requested the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) assistance in processing the crime scene.
