MEMBERS of the Justice Sector Coordinating Council (JSCC) on Monday have agreed to create more “justice zones” in the country, outgoing Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo Guevarra said.

“The JSCC has agreed in principle to create more justice zones across the country to enhance cooperation among law enforcers, prosecutors, judges, and other stakeholders in the administration of criminal justice,” Guevarra said in a message.

“And the next justice zone will be in Baguio City, and we’ll launch it on June 24,” he continued.

Guevarra sent the message to reporters shortly after a JSCC meeting earlier on Monday with Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, outgoing Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año, and the incoming department secretaries under the Marcos administration to explain the nature and work of the JSCC.

“It was just a general briefing about the JSCC and its basic objective of promoting coordination among the various agencies involved in the criminal justice system,” Supreme Court (SC) Public Information Office Chief Brian Keith Hosaka said in a separate message.

The JSCC, composed of the SC, DOJ, and DILG, aims to strengthen the sector-wide coordination within the justice system and ensures that all institutions working in the administration of justice are working “effectively” towards a common goal of delivering swift and fair justice.
