‘”Greek Freak” coming to Manila

TWO-TIME NBA Most Valuable Player Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks is coming.

Antetokounmpo, known in the NBA and the world as the “Greek Freak,” will play for Greece in the 2023 FIBA World Cup scheduled Aug. 25- Sept. 10 in Manila.

The 6-foot-9 power-forward, who took MVP honors for two consecutive years in 2019 and 2020, is expected to power world No. 8 Greece against the United States, New Zealand and Jordan in Group C of the preliminaries.

Greece and the United States are scheduled to face each other on Aug. 28 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City

Greece and Antetokounmpo, who will probably be joined by his brothers Thanasis and Kostas, debut in the group phase against No. 33 Jordan on Aug. 26 and wrap up the first round against No. 26 New Zealand on Aug. 30.

If it moves up, Greece faces even bigger challenges

Up next in the second round will be the top two teams from Group D made up of No. 8. Lithuania, No. 18 Montenegro, No. 31 Mexico and No. 55 Egypt.
