Grappling champs at TOPS

THE Philippine Youth team which finished third overall in the United World Wrestling (UWW) Cadet/Junior World Grappling Championships in Ufa, Russia will be the special guest in the 122nd “Usapang Sports on Air” by the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) via Zoom this Thursday.

Headed by Philippine Wrestling Federation president Alvin Aguilar, the Filipinos brought home three silver and six bronze medals in the prestigious competition held Aug. 13-14.

Attending the 10 a.m. public service program are Lord Gabriel Del Rosario, who captured two silver medals in the 46 kilogram category of grappling no-gi and grappling gi events; David Zaldarriaga who bagged a silver in the 42 kilogram class of the grappling no-gi and bronze in the grappling-gi; and Lucas Aguilar, Joaquin Marte, and Fierre Afan, who pocketed bronze medals in their respective categories.

Aguilar is also expected to talk about the Filipinos’ campaign in next year’s Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) scheduled March 10-20, 2022 in Bangkok and the province of Chonburi in Thailand and the 19th Asian Games set Sept. 10-25, 2022 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China.

TOPS president Ed Andaya of People’s Tonight is inviting all officers and members and friends in the sports community to join the weekly public service program sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) and Games and Amusements Board (GAB).

TOPS is composed of editors, columnists, reporters and photographers of the country’s leading national tabloids and friends from different social media groups.

This is the 122nd episode of the TOPS “Usapang Sports” since its formal launch at the National Press Club in 2018 and its 64th edition since turning to a new platform due to the pandemic.

Veteran sportscaster Ernest Leo Hernandez is the moderator.
