Gov’t vehicles
THE unauthorized use of government-owned or rented motor vehicles remains a major problem in the Philippines.
This, despite the fact that government vehicles, including cars and motorcycles. are marked “For Official Use Only.”
Thus, like other well-meaning people, we support a proposed law requiring all state-owned vehicles to be installed with GPS.
GPS is a global positioning system by which signals are sent by satellites to a special device used to show the position of a person or thing.
Of course, the position sent by GPS trackers is very accurate, according to reports.
Authored by Nueva Vizcaya Rep. Luisa Lloren Cuaresma, the proposed “GPS Tracking Device Act” is aimed at making government employees honest.”
Cuaresma said “the knowledge that they can be tracked by GPS discourages drivers or public officers from makng inappropriate use of government-owned vehicles.”
“Malaking tulong ang panukalang batas na ito para maiwasan ang ‘di tamang paggamit ng mga sasakyan ng gobyerno,” a taxpayer said.
“Kung minsan kasi ay may mga nakikita tayong government vehicles na nakaparada sa mga lugar na hindi dapat pinupuntahan ng isang lingkod-bayan,” he added.
The proposed piece of legislation, now pending consideration in the House of Representatives, deserves the support of the people.
