HOUSE Assistant Majority Leader and ACT-CIS party-list Rep. Niña Taduran has commended the swift action of the government in dealing with the new Omicron variant of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19).

Taduran said that the immediate closure of the Philippines’ borders to travelers from nations with reported cases of infection of the Omicron variant would help contain its entry in the country.

“Yes, the action of the government will hurt tourism and the businesses related to the industry, but it’s better to keep the infection at bay. This is also a wake up call for everyone to be on guard and protect oneself by following health protocols and getting the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Taduran.

“We live in a precarious time and we have to think of the welfare of the entire populace. The World Health Organization studies say that as long as the COVID-19 virus continues to infect unvaccinated people, it will keep mutating,” Taduran added.

Fourteen countries have been listed in the red, preventing all travelers from these nations to enter the country.

Filipinos who get trapped in these countries will be assisted by the government for immediate repatriation.
