Bong Go full support for PH basketball team

IN a show of unity and support, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, together with fellow senators, watched the recent match of the Philippines men’s basketball team against Saudi Arabia in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers held at the Mall of Asia Arena on Monday, August 29.

“As Chair of the Senate Committee on Sports, it is with great pride and honor that I express my sincerest gratitude and congratulations to each and every member of Team Gilas Pilipinas for their unwavering devotion to our country through their commendable performance in front of the Filipino crowd,” said Go as Gilas Pilipinas won overwhelmingly against the team of Saudi Arabia before a home crowd.

“Ako po ay naniniwala sa kakayanan ng bawat isa sa inyo. Andito lang po kami, full support sa ating mga atleta,” he added.

Meanwhile, Go assured that he remains steadfast in his commitment to advance the country’s sports development programs and pursue measures to protect the welfare of Filipino athletes.

Go, together with other senators, recently filed Senate Resolution No. 83 urging the Committee on Sports to conduct an inquiry in aid of legislation on the ways to fully support the Philippine national basketball team in future international competitions and “look over the preparations being done by the concerned offices and or agencies for our hosting of the 2023 FIBA World Cup.”

“Titignan natin kung paano tayo makakatulong na palakasin pa lalo ang ating sports programs lalo na sa basketball na hilig talaga ng mga Pilipino. For so many years, our national teams have brought pride and honor to our country. So we want to make sure we can keep on improving,” Go explained earlier.

Go clarified that the inquiry aims to review the relevant laws and policies to ensure optimal performance in future international sports competitions and to further protect the welfare of Filipino athletes.

“Bilang mambabatas, nais nating pagusapan kasama ang mga manlalalaro, organizers, coaches at sports officials kung paano makakatulong ang gobyerno sa ating iisang hangarin na magtagumpay sa international competitions,” he clarified.

Moreover, Go urged all Filipinos to unite and work together to help competing athletes bring more honor to the country.

“Kaya naman po hinihimok ko rin ang ating mga kababayan na magkaisa para sa ating Gilas Pilipinas Men’s basketball team. Ibigay po natin ang suportang kanilang kinakailangan,” he continued.

“Again, sama-sama po nating itaas ang dangal ng Pilipinas sa mundo ng sports. Goodluck po sa ating mga atleta at mabuhay po kayong lahat!” the senator concluded.
