Ysabel1YSABEL Ortega feels so fortunate to be included in the first batch of Kapuso stars introduced in the rebranding of GMA Artist Center as Sparkle. She’s the newest among them. How does she feel about it?

“It feels really good to be in the company of Sanya Lopez, Bianca Umali and Gabbi Garcia who have all played lead roles,” she says. “It’s also nice to know that GMA believes in me. It helps in motivating me to do better. I’m just so thankful for the opportunity and I’ve become more driven to live up to their expectations dahil ayokong ma-disappoint sila sa tiwalang ibinigay nila sa akin.”

What’s her take on GMA Artist Center now being known as Sparkle? “I think it’s a good way of relaunching their management arm. New Year, new name, and it’s a big opportunity for us, their talents, to show the people our own sparkle. I feel so happy to be a part of this group and I expect that it will help me to grow in my career.”

Ysabel was born on January 25, 1999, so she’s turning 23 next week. Her dad is Sen. Lito Lapid and her mom is former actress Michelle Ortega. She started as a teener playing supporting roles in ABS-CBN then moved to GMA Network where she’s given bigger roles in shows like “The Gift” and “Pepito Manaloto”.

This year, expect Ysabel’s star to soar as she will topbill her own teleserye, “What We Could Be”, a co-production between GMA and Atty. Joji V. Alonso of Quantum Films and TV. It will be directed by Jeffrey Jeturian and the whole story will revolve around her as a poor girl whose life will change for the better when unexpected good luck suddenly falls on her lap.

“I’m really excited with this project,” says Ysabel. “Direk Jeffrey is a respected director and I feel so inspired to work with him. I can’t wait for us to start taping our show.”

She will be having no less than two good-looking Kapuso actors as her leading men in “What We Could Be”, Miguel Tanfelix and Yasser Marta. She is also with Miguel in “Voltes V Legacy” where she will play the female lead role of Jamie Robinson, but this will be shown later as they’re still doing its very elaborate post-production requirements that involve a lot of state-of-the-art special effects. “What We Could Be” will be shown ahead.
