A team of paranormal investigators were exploring the oldest pub in the English county of Leicestershire when they seemingly captured a ghostly voice telling them to “leave here”.

The team members were investigating The Belper Arms – which is located in Newton Burgoland and dates back to the year 1290 – when they found evidence of four ghosts roaming around the pub, including the well-known spirit of “Five to Four Fred” who received that nickname due to the time of day when he usually makes his presence known.

Fred is rumored to be quite hands-on with the female customers as his spirit is known to touch their faces, tickle their necks, and even occasionally pinch their bottoms. He is also known to move objects around the pub.

The pub is rumored to have several ghosts lurking around.

While Fred is a very active spirit, the paranormal team made contact with other ghosts during their investigation. They set up numerous pieces of equipment and received communication from a “nice spirit and an unwelcoming one.” This included a voice that seemingly said “leave here”.

In an interview with LeicestershireLive, team member Will Hammond explained what happened during their investigation, “I set up different pieces of equipment, machinery that doesn’t go off unless something enters its atmosphere.” “I set up a thing call a spirit box, in which ghosts can communicate through radio frequencies.” “The meters were answering yes and no question very clearly and I heard knocking on doors and bangs in the bar area.” As for the Ouija Board, it “was clearly not welcomed,” he stated. He went on to say that there was a constant uneasy feeling while in the bar.

Will became interested in the paranormal after his mother passed away in 1999. He said, “Strange events started to happen that I couldn’t explain,” adding, “The thing that fascinates me the most is how something can move on its own and hear voices.”

The pub’s landlady, Kirstie Croft, described the spirits residing at the location, “We have a Geoff and Fred downstairs and supposedly a peaceful couple living upstairs with the possibility of children.”

Will added that “There were two more spirits in the living quarters that were peaceful and friendly. But one of the ghosts downstairs was not.” “It felt as if the bad spirit was dominant in controlling what was happening.” “People should not be afraid, it has been haunted for a long time but do be respectful.”
