GHOST LEARNERS
THE Department of Education is currently investigating the alleged presence of ghost students under the Senior High School (SHS) Voucher Program in 12 private schools across nine divisions.
According to DepEd, they are now looking into personnel and officials who may be involved in this fraudulent activity which could result in the termination of a school’s participation in the Senior High School Voucher Program.
As part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s marching order to uphold transparency and accountability, DepEd is taking swift action to preserve the integrity of its funds and program implementation.
“We take these allegations seriously. Any form of misuse of public funds intended for critical education programs will not be tolerated. This investigation is a necessary step as we pursue the truth and hold accountable those responsible,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said.
In line with this, DepEd has initiated recourse actions including preparation for the termination of the schools’ accreditation and collating pieces of evidence against responsible individuals.
Angara said the Deped is also exploring potential legal measures against those found culpable, including administrative and criminal sanctions, in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
Meanwhile, Deped gave assurance that it will provide necessary assistance to affected, legitimate students to ensure their continued education without disruption.
