
Gentri intensifies anti-dengue drive
CITY OF GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite – The local government unit under the leadership of Mayor Luis “Jon-Jon” Ferrer IV, together with Vice Mayor Jonas Labuguen, on Monday launched an intensified drive against dengue-carrying mosquito.
The launching of the dengue prevention and control campaign was held at Navarro Elementary School in Bgy. Navarro, this city.
The City Health Office headed by Dr. Jonathan Luseco also assisted in the implementation of the project for the safety of Gentriseños against dengue.
The local government was alarmed by the increase in dengue cases in the area that reached to 479 cases or 343.52 percent compared to the same period last year, which was recorded at 108 cases.
The school officials and the students have expressed support to the intensified program against dengue.
Anti-dengue supplies such as olyset nets, spray cans, chemicals and boxes of off lotion were distributed to all the students of the school.
“This is not the only step we are taking to fight dengue, our fogging team is constantly going around every barangay to eliminate the mosquito carrier of dengue,” the mayor said.
“We are also continuously communicating with every barangay through the barangay health workers (BHW) for the information dissemination regarding dengue prevention and proper cleaning of areas that are potential breeding grounds for dengue-carrying mosquitoes,” Mayor Ferrer further said.
“Basta’t sama-sama po, kaya po natin itong labanan, Pagtulungan po nating puksain ito,” Ferrer added.
Based on the data released by the Cavite Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, there are 20 cases of dengue in Bgy. San Francisco, 19 cases in Navarro, 12 in Pasong Kawayan 2, 11 cases in Bacao 2, 11 cases in Pasong Camachile 2, eight in Santiago, and seven each in Bacao 1, Tejero, Biclatan and Pasong Camachile 1.
“Pababa naman na ang trend ng dengue cases sa atin due to intensive campaign and information dissemination, seek and destroy at fogging and misting operation. Salamat sa assistance ng local government, naka-purchase agad tayo ng mga equipment, supplies, chemicals para sa patuloy na pagbaba ng kaso ng dengue outbreak,” Ferrer said.
