Gatchalian formally resigns as House member
NEWY-appointed Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian formally relinquished his House membership.
Gatchalian sent a letter to Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez stating his formal resignation as representative of the First District of Valenzuela City and as chairman of the House Committee on Local Government.
Prior to his election as congressman, Gatchalian was a three-term mayor of Valenzuela City.
In his letter, Gatchalian expressed his gratitude to Speaker Romualdez for giving him the opportunity not just to be an active member but also as one of the House leaders.
“Please accept this letter as my official resignation as Representative of the First District of Valenzuela City and as Chairman of the committee on local government effective January 31, 2023,” Gatchalian said in the letter.
“It was an honor and privilege to have served as a member of the House of Representatives in the 19th Congress and as Chairman of the committee on local government under your able leadership,” he added.
Gatchalian vowed to continue to work with Congress and his colleagues for better development of the Filipino people.
