PHUKET Waves continued to churn out major surprises in the Thailand Basketball League (TBL).

With the trio of Raymond Edward Miller, Morakinyo Michael Williams and former PBA player James Martinez leading the way, Phuket Waves pulled off a 77-73 reversal over top seed Bangkok Tigers and drew first blood in their semifinals encounter at the Basketball Stadium, Multi-Purpose Building of the Office of The Permanent Secretary for Defense.

Miller, Williams and Martinez combined for 64 points for the Waves, who need only one more win over the Tigers to advance to the finals.

Miller finished with a game-high 28 points on a respectable 11-of-15 shooting, while adding 17 rebounds, seven assists and two blocks in 40 minutes of action.

Equally Impressive were Williams, who added 25 points and 14 rebounds and playing coach Martinez, who contributed 11 points and seven assists for the Waves.

“Breaks of the game lang siguro. Swerte kami nanalo sa No. 1 team dito. Nag-step up talaga yung imports ng team lalo na si Williams at Miller, pati si Wowie Escosio” said Martinez, whose team is being supported by Sprinto Shades as the official eyewear; Winzir and MEBL Apparel.

“Pero kailangan pa manalo ng isa pa para finals na kami. Maganda talaga yun scouting na ginagawa ni coach Ronald (Mojica) sa mga nakakalaban namin para sa game preparation,” added Martinez, who is also best remembered during his playing days with San Beda College and University of the East.

Escosio chipped in with eight points, four rebounds, and four assists.

Takamin Sirijariyaporn tallied 16 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for Bangkok Tigers.

Thacharin Nabonne had 13 points and Gabriel Bertrand Yeumo added 12 points and 13 rebounds.
