FILIPINA boxer Josie Gabuco suffered a shock loss to Gulasal Sultonalieva of Uzbekistan to settle for a women’s light-flyweight bronze medal in the Asian Boxing Confederation Elite Men and Women’s Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai Thursday night.

A Southeast Asian Games gold medalist and an AIBA world champion, Gabuco failed to live up as one of the top seeds in the tournament as she dropped a 1-4 decision from the hands of Sultonalieva.

Gabuco won the title in 2019.

With Gabuco’s early elimination, Olympian middleweight Eumir Marcial, bantamweight Junmilardo Ogayre and light flyweight Mark Lester Durens were the ones who carry the fight for the Philippines.

Marcial was slated to face Jafarov Saidjamshid of Uzbekistan, while Durens was about to meeting Daniyal Sabit of Kazakhstan.

Ogayre, on the other hand, was about to cross paths with top-seed Mirazizbek Mirzahalilov of Uzbekistan.
