Fugitive Korean wanted for fraud captured
AGENTS of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Korean man wanted in his home country for fraud.
BI Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Joel Anthony Viado said the 56-year-old Korean man whose name was withheld for security reasons, was arrested at the agency’s headquarters in Intramuros last September 12.
He was intercepted after presenting his new passport at the BI’s immigration regulation division for processing.
The suspect has an active warrant of arrest issued by the Seoul Jungang District Prosecutor’s Office in 2021 for aggravated punishment and economic crimes in violation of South Korean laws.
His name was included in the Interpol red notice for allegedly embezzling over $1 million by submitting loan applications.
He was immediately arrested by fugitive search unit (FSU) agents, and now faces a deportation case with the BI.
