
Four die in Malabon fire
THREE siblings, including a person with disability (PWD) and their 9-year-old niece, perished in a fire that hit a residential community yesterday before dawn in Malabon City.
Malabon Police Chief P/Col. Jay Baybayan identified the fatalities as alias “Cora”, 38, a PWD, her brother “Naldo”, 35, sister “Connie”, 26, and their niece “Jane”, Grade 3 student of Imelda Elementary School.
Firefighters found the bodies of the victims on the back side of their burnt house.
Initial investigation conducted by Malabon Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) arson investigator FO2 Edralin Santos showed that the fire of still undetermined origin struck at the house owned by a 69-year-old woman at Blk 15, Lot 37, Phase 2, A3, in Bgy. Longos, at around 3:45 a.m.
The fire quickly spread to adjacent houses made of light materials.
Six houses were destroyed in a fire that was declared under control at around 4:50 a.m. leaving 10 families homeless.
Arson investigators are still determining the origin of the fire.
