Foreigner falls for selling fake cigarettes in Cavite

BACOOR CITY, Cavite – More than P200,000 worth of fake cigarettes were confiscated from a foreigner who was accused of selling items in a parking lot of SM City Bacoor in Barangay Habay here, December 14, 2022.

Authorities are still verifying whether the suspect’s nationality is Chinese or Korean.

According to a report from Cavite Provincial Director P/Col. Christopher Olazo, they received a report from a concerned citizen who bought a pack of cigarettes from a foreigner.

According to the victim, who did not identify himself, he allegedly bought Marlboro and Phillip Morris from a person who identified himself as “Nenita Kileste” in the mall’s parking lot.

But after he used said cigarette, his chest “felt tight” due to the strange smoke of the cigarettes.

He sought police help, and an entrapment operation was set at the said mall.

At around 7:30 p.m. December 14, 2022, the suspect was caught by the police selling Marlboro and Philip Morris packs in the area.

Based on the examination conducted by Solomon P. Dador Jr., ITP executive of PMFTC Inc., said the said seized cigarettes did not go through any permit or authorization from Philip Morris International.

Recovered were 100 reams of Marlboro Red valued at P160,000, 50 reams of Marlboro Gold worth P80,000, the suspect’s Ford Ranger, iPhone 12 mobile phone, and the marked money.

The foreigner will be facing charges of violation of RA (Republic Act) 8293 or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines
