FOOD AID POURS FOR ‘KRISTINE VICTIMS’

SAN Miguel Corporation (SMC) is sending food assistance to families across 14 provinces hit hard by severe Tropical Storm Kristine.

SMC chairman and CEO Ramon S. Ang has directed SMC business units to expedite the delivery of essential food items to the hardest-hit areas, including communities in the Bicol Region, where over 30,000 people were forced to evacuate due to severe flooding.

Working with local government units and leveraging its extensive distribution network nationwide, SMC is sending truckloads of food to areas where stores are closed and residents are struggling.

This includes parts of Albay province, where flooding and lahar have disrupted daily life.

“Our priority is to get aid to those in critical need as quickly as possible,” said Ang.

He added: “Our San Miguel Foundation is coordinating closely with local officials and our distributors to ensure these essential food items reach those communities fastest.”

Millions worth of food donations are being delivered to the provinces of Albay, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, Quezon, Laguna, Batangas, Isabela, La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Quirino, Ifugao, Eastern Samar, and Northern Samar.

Ang expressed sympathy for those impacted by the storm and reaffirmed SMC’s commitment to providing continued support to help them recover.

Central Luzon cops were mobilized for relief efforts to typhoon-hit families in Bicol.

Police Regional Office 3 director Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan emphasized the importance of community support during this challenging time.

“Our primary goal is to ensure that those families affected by typhoon Kristine receive the help they need. The police force stands ready to assist and show solidarity in their time of need,” Maranan said.

Central Luzon cops brought relief goods, including food, water, and essential supplies,to to the typhoon-hit victims.

Meanwhile, the local government of Imus City on Friday distributed relief packs to those affected by “Kristine.”

Mayor Alex Advincula led the distribution of relief packs to more than 2,400 flood-hit individuals who were brought to evacuation centers in Bgy. Palico and Toclong.

Advincula also led the cleaning of roads that were filled with mud caused by flooding to make it safe for motorists, with the help of the City Engineering Office and City Fire Department.

In General Trias City, Mayor Luis Ferrer IV spearheaded the feeding of evacuees at evacuation sites in barangays Bacao, 1 and 2, and barangay Tejero, together with Vice Mayor Jonas Labuguen, and City Social Welfare officer Bengky Generoso.

In Noveleta town, Board members Abeng Remulla, Ram Revilla, Romel Enriquez, Davey Chua and Mayor Dino Chua led the distribution of relief goods to victims of the super typhoon in the locality.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) headed by its chairman Richard dispatched the second batch of humanitarian caravan to provinces gravely-affected by the severe tropical storm.

The additional assets include a ten-wheeler relief truck to be loaded with relief items, two 10,000-liter water tankers, two water treatment units, a service vehicle, and communication systems (three Starlink units and ten satellite phones).

In addition to standard relief items, the PRC has also provided mother and baby kits to support pregnant women and new mothers with infants affected by this disaster. These kits are essential for addressing the unique needs of mothers and babies in emergency situations, helping to ensure their health and well-being amid the crisis.

A mini van containing 1,000 packs of loaf breads donated by a partner of PRC was also dispatched to Bicol.

“According to the report from our Operations Center, there are more than 68,000 families or over 300,000 individuals affected by ‘Kristine’—that’s pretty alarming. We are in the service of saving lives; alleviating the suffering of our people is our goal. That’s why I decided to send more of our assets and volunteers on the ground to serve and save many others,” said PRC Chairman Richard Gordon.

In Laguna, a man drowned while rescuing three kids at Sitio Baybay Ilog (SBI), Bgy. Pulong Sta Cruz, Sta Rosa City, Laguna.

In Zambales, one died, one was reported missing in Bulacan, while 895,035 individuals (281,295 families) were affected in the 586 barangays in Central Luzon during the onslaught of “Kristine.”

Damage to acgriculture was placed at more than P24-million.

Affected were 127 barangays in Aurora, 175 in Bulacan, 47 in Zambales, 20 in Bataan, 78 in Pampanga, 128 barangays in Nueva Ecija and 11 in Tarlac.

The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) said a total of P2,605,209.90 worth of assistance were provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the concerned local government unit to the affected individuals and families as yesterday.
