Five perish in one-hour fire in Navotas
FIVE people, including a mother and daughter, and three children died in a fire yesterday morning in Navotas City.
The fire of still undetermined origin struck a residential house at 7:02 a.m. on Gov. Pascual St. near the barangay hall of Bgy. San Roque.
When personnel of Navotas BFP barge in inside the house, they found the victims, Sarah, 41, her daughter Xylem Lorein Constantino, 17, senior high school at Arellano University Malabon, her cousin Ruthie Tongco, 12, Grade 6, and siblings Daniella, 13, Grade 8, and Kyla Jocson, 12, Grade 6, all unconscious.
Some of the victims were cousins of the Constantino family and had slept over with them.
They were rushed to Navotas City Hospital where they were declared dead upon arrival due to suffocation.
Arson investigators said all the victims were negative of any burn marks, or any signs of resistance.
Probers are still investigating the origin of the fire. Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco assured corresponding assistance to the victim’s family, including free funeral and burial service or cremation for all the deceased.
The Navotas Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire was finally put out at around 7:53 a.m.
