Fish unloading remains high amid stricter COVID protocols

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) reported a 40 percent increase in the unloaded fish volume or 8.4 metric tons amid the wide-range quarantine protocols due to the rise in COVID-19 cases.

In a report submitted to the DA Central Office, the Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) said the fish volume unloaded in major fish ports reached a total of 8,483.87 MT over one week from August 9 to 15.

According to PFDA-Regional Fish Ports (RFPs), the latest figures show a 40.15 percent increase compared to the volume of fish delivered from the previous week.

Leading the week’s record are PFDA-General Santos Fish Port Complex with 3,747.02 MT (67.77% increase) and PFDA-Bulan Fish Port Complex with 156.17 MT (106.41% increase). The Navotas Fish Port Complex recorded a significant performance under ECQ with a positive 3,364.79 MT of a 32.95% increase. PFDA-Iloilo Fish Port Complex, also under ECQ, improved its weekly unloading volume by 0.30%, reaching a total of 490.32 MT of available fish for all its consumers. The PFDA-Lucena Fish Port Complex recorded 392.50 MT (31.85%), while PFDA-Davao Fish Port Complex (PFDA-DFPC) quadrupled its weekly unloading volume after recording 107.56 MT of fish.
