A fire of still undetermined origin hit a shopping mall owned by the Villar Group of Companies Saturday before dawn in Muntinlupa City.

The five-level Star Mall located in Alabang-Muntinlupa junction caught fire past 3 a.m. that allegedly started at the second floor and quickly spread to AllHome Department Store at the ground floor, prompting the Muntinlupa Bureau of Fire Protection to raise the fifth alarm at around 7:13 a.m.

A black smoke continued to billow from the burning building until the fire reached Task Force Alpha at around 7:46 a.m. which requires the response of fire trucks from other cities around Metro Manila.

The fire created a huge traffic jam along the East Service Road of South Superhighway prompting the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority to advised motorists to find other routes.

As of the latest report, there has been no injury or casualty from the incident.

In a telephone interview at around 3:14 p.m., Muntinlupa Central Fire Station desk officer FO2 Jayrold Tamboong said firefighters continue to battle the blaze while a thick smoke still billowed from the burning building.
