Fire hits Basilan village

SOME 500 families lost their houses in a fire that hit a village in Isabela City, Basilan.

Isabela City Police Station commander Lt. Col. Julpikar Sitin said the fire started from one of the houses in Bgy. Kaumpurnah Zone 1 around 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The blaze immediately spread to the nearby houses mostly made-up of light materials.

Firefighters rushed to the village and helped contain the blaze.

The fire, which gutted some 235 houses, was declared under control after two hours.

No one was reported hurt.

The displaced families are temporarily taking shelter at the Basilan National High School. Jane Eleda
