4 pinned to death, 2 die later in Quezon road mishap
TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon — Six persons yesterday were killed while three others were severely-injured after a speeding Nissan Urvan Escapade van collided with a FAW tractor head in Tagkawayan, Quezon.
Town police commander Maj. Marcelito Platino said van driver Ron Aldwin Aquino, 30; and his passengers Ma. Thalia Bombales, Sergei Victor France Reyes, 26; and John Robert Diocampo, 24; died on the spot after they were pinned inside the van while Agnes Villarosa, 29; and Rommel Galupar, 26; passed away while undergoing treatmeny at the Ma. L. Eleazar Memorial District Hospital in Tagkawayan.
Reyes is the Sangguniang Kabataan chairman of Bgy. Kayquit 2, Indang, Cavite while Diocampo was a SK councilor also in Cavite.
Three other passengers, Fatima Beroin, 31; Raymond Froibel Cortez, 34; and Joel Badiola, 41; suffered multiple severe injuries and are being treated at the said hospital.
In his report submitted to Quezon police director Col. Joel Villanueva, Platino said the smashup transpired at 12:20 a.m. yesterday.
The Bicol- bound van, which was ascending a curve portion of the highway, overtook another vehicle and occupied the left lane of the highway, causing it to collide with the approaching Manila- bound truck driven by Arjay Brito Redecialla, 29.
The tragedy occurred on Quirino Highway, Bgy. San Vicente.
On impact, Aquino and all his passengers sustained multiple serious injuries, which caused his, Bombales, Reyes, and Diocampo’s immediate death.
Upon learning of the incident, Platino immediately formed and dispatched a rescue team to the accident site, along with members of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office.
Two survivors, meanwhile, said before the road crash, the driver of the van was having a video call while driving.
They also said the van was running too fast.
