Fil-am 2nd grader’s halo-halo recipe a viral hit among classmates in US

HALO-HALO (Mix-mix) rules in the US!
This proved true in a Minneapolis, Minnesota school wherein the Filipino delicacy was a viral hit among students in a second grade class at the Lake Country School.
It was because budding young chef Isa Dávila Glenny, 8, decided to give her western classmates, teacher Mr. John Mullin and Principal Moudry a surprise and delightful treat from the east — halo-halo
The colorful halo-halo ingredients instantly caught the attention of the young tasters who excitedly asked what it was.
“It’s Mix-mix!,” Isa proudly shared.
Halo, a Tagalog term, means mix in English.
Isa then gave each one a generous bowlful of her halo-halo recipe which she topped with leche flan she herself made — with the classic ube ice cream topping.
The class loved the Filipino dessert, with many even asking for second servings. Young palates welcomed the novelty cooler as it was a sweltering eight degrees Fahrenheit outside the school.
Filled with pride, Isa also gave her brother Enzo, 5, in pre-kindergarten, a sweet helping of the ‘mix-mix.’
Isa’s granddad José Dávila — better known as Bito, grandmom Cecile Cardenas Davila — better known as Bella, and mom, Andrea Davila, couldn’t help but pat each other on the back for having a budding kitchen wiz in the family.
Lolo Bito, Lola Bella and mom Andrea can’t stop brimming with pride that at such a very tender age, Isa is well on her way to becoming an ambassadress of Pinoy cuisine and culture.
When asked how Isa turned out to be a focused and very talented personality, Lolo Bito, Lola Bella and mom Andrea beamed, “It’s in the genes.” By BOBBY MENDOZA
