FAR Eastern University-Diliman set in motion its bid for a 11th consecutive crown with a 5-0 rout of Ateneo in the UAAP high school boys football tournament at the University of the Philippines Football Field in Diliman.

Selwyn Nickos Mamon produced the first hat-trick in the league’s return after a three-year hiatus, while Bryan Villanueva and Arvin Alayon also entered the scoresheet for the Baby Tamaraws.

The Blue Eagles were able to hold on in the first 32 minutes until Mamon opened the scoring for the defending champions.

Justin Concepcion’s 31st minute penalty gave La Salle-Zobel a 1-0 win over University of Santo Tomas in the other opening day fixture.

Action resumes with FEU-Diliman taking on UST at 4 p.m., followed by the 6 p.m. match between La Salle-Zobel and Ateneo.
