FEU blanks Ateneo in UAAP football
ACE Amita scored the lone goal as Far Eastern University charged to the Final Four with a 1-0 win over Ateneo in the UAAP men’s football tournament Thursday night at the UP Football Stadium.
The win put the Tamaraws in second place with 20 points, joining the top-ranked Blue Eagles, who are still at 24 points, in the next round.
“Well the most important thing now that we already qualified for the Final Four so the first objective is done. It’s always important for the team to win matches,” said FEU’s Spanish coach Roman Oliver.
With the first half threatening to end in a stalemate, Amita opened the scoring in the 41st minute, tapping in a cross from Khent Valenzuela to put the Tamaraws ahead.
“We had four matches in a row without conceding any goal. So I think we’re in a good way competing in the next matches and we’re already ready for the Final Four,” said Oliver.
Ateneo had several chances to turn things around in the second round but could not convert, preserving FEU’s clean sheet.
