Ferrer leads gift-giving for kids, Xmas tree lighting ceremony

GENERAL TRIAS CITY, (GenTri) Cavite – The local city government of General Trias formally opened their Christmas lights decoration in the city hall complex and the annual “Adopt a Child, Grant a Wish” program for children, Thursday, December 1, 2022.

GenTri Mayor Luis “Jon Jon” Ferrer IV, First Lady Monette Ferrer, and Vice Mayor Jonas Labuguen led the simple opening of the lights and unveiling of the giant Christmas tree at the city esplanade, signaling the gradual return of vigor and fun amid the pandemic and the aftermath of typhoon “Paeng.”

Mayor Ferrer and his wife also led the early Christmas gift-giving to 50 children from low-income families from 33 barangays of GenTri, who went in line to receive their “wish list” this holiday season.

Among the sponsors of the “Adopt a Child, Grant a Wish”’ program who became godfathers and godmothers are Vice Mayor Jonas Labuguen and his wife Lorie Labuguen, city councilors, barangay chairpersons of 33 villages, and city department heads.

“In addition to handing out the wish list of the youth, we are together with The Light of Hope Project of General Trias City Jail, we bought 400 giant lanterns from the ‘persons deprived of liberty’ (PDLs) to be placed in 33 barangays to help 50 inmates to be given a chance to be released by supporting their needs in the process of their release,” the mayor said in an interview.

“This coming December 12, on my birthday, we will celebrate it with 500 persons with disabilities (PWDs) who are residents of our city. We have been doing this every year since we became the leaders of our city. it was temporarily stopped for the past two years due to the entry of COVID-19 in our country,” Mayor Ferrer added.

Kawit, Tanza, and Maragondon, also opened their Christmas lights decor in their plazas led by Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo, Mayor Yuri Pacumio, and Mayor Lawrence “Umbe” Arca, respectively.

The cities of Cavite, Imus, Bacoor, and Trece Martires and the towns of Bailen, Alfonso, and Ternate opened their Christmas lights and trees simultaneously with their programs on December 2, 2022.
