Female vendor loses finger over P1K debt

GAPAN CITY – A 49-year-old female vendor lost her right index finger when a man collecting a P1,000-debt from her got mad and accidentally fired an improvised shotgun after she failed to pay him on Friday.

City police head Lt. Col. Joel M. Dela Cruz identified the wounded victim as Merlyn Dela Torre, 49, a widow, of Bgy. San Vicente, this city.

Investigation showed the suspect, identified as alias “Bugnot,” 39, a construction worker, of Bgy. Pambuan, this city, drew a “sumpak” and pointed it to the woman.

The improvised shotgun accidentally fired, hitting her stall and right index finger.

The shooting occurred inside the public market at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Dela Cruz said the suspect fled after the incident but was subsequently arrested by responding cops.

An investigation showed the suspect got infuriated when the victim failed to pay him the remaining balance of her debt worth P1,000.

Separate charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, the Omnibus Election Code, grave threats, and alarm and scandal are being readied for inquest-filing against the arrested suspect before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
