A 51-year-old lady doctor escaped death when she used her skills on martial art against a jobless man who barged into her clinic and tried to stab her Monday evening in Malabon City.

Malabon police chief P/Col. Albert Barot said the timely arrival of policemen from Sub-Station-1 led by P/Lt. Joseph Almayda saved Paulo Gonzales, 37, resident of 37 P. Concepcion St., Brgy, Tugatog from the hands of irate bystanders who ganged up on him while trying to escape after a thwarted attempt to kill Dr. Eva Cristine Andrade inside her clinic at 47-K Huat-Huat Building, Gov. Pascual Avenue, Brgy. Potrero.

The incident, according to P/CMSgt. Rio Norcio, shift supervisor of Malabon police, happened at around 10:45 p.m. after Gonzales, while armed with a bladed weapon, barged inside the clinic and without apparent reason attacked and tried to stab Dr. Andrade.

The lady physician, who maintained her composure, was able to parry the stabbing blow and wrested possession of the weapon using her skill on self defense which prompted the suspect to run outside the clinic to escape.

Dr. Andrade sought assistance from a group of bystanders who mauled the suspect when he was cornered following a brief chase. The beating was stopped when responding policemen and barangay officials arrived at the scene.

Lt. Almayda said investigators are looking into personal grudge and robbery as possible motives behind the incident after the victim revealed to the authorities that she had been receiving death threats from unknown suspect.
