Female cops
IT is certainly heartening to know that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is now teeming with female officers.
In fact, PNP chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil said that female cops now hold key positions in the police agency.
The country’s premier law enforcement agency, the PNP “is civilian in nature but national in scope.”
And we share the view of Marbil that the presence of more female cops reflects PNP’s commitment to gender equality and professional excellence.
Among the top female PNP officers are Brig. Generals Jean Fajardo, Jezebel D. Medina, Portia Manalad and Maria Leonora Camarao.
Fajardo is the country’s first woman PNP spokesperson and regional director. She now heads the Police Regional Office 3.
Generals Medina and Manalad head the PNP Health Service and the PNP Women and Children Protection Office, respectively.
Camarao, on the other hand, directs the powerful PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS)
Another officer, Col. Vina Guzman, an academy commandant, is poised for promotion, according to reports.
Like other well-meaning Filipinos, we commend President Marcos and the PNP leadership for promoting deserving female police officers.
It’s a move in the right direction, which every Filipino must support.
