Fatima outplays UMak, New Era overpowers CUP
OUR Lady of Fatima University went on a strong second half surge to beat University of Makati, 84-63 while New Era University defeated City University of Pasay, 71-61, in the NAASCU Season 22 basketball tournament at the OLFU gym in Valenzuela City.
Ace Rusell Tiamzon led the way for the Valenzuela City-based Phoenix of coach Ralph Rivera as he finished with 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting on top of eight rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes of play.
Cnergee “Best Player of the Game” awardee Mamadou Toure added a double-double performance of 14 points and 17 rebounds and three blocks.
Danzel Gomez had 13 points, two rebounds and two assists while Edward Labayen and Charles Tecson chipped in 11 points each.
Enzo Montecastro paced the losing effort of the Herons with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Yhano Lacsarum added 11 points and three rebounds and Nonon Lastra contributed 10 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Earlier, David Aldrick led the balanced attack for the Quezon City-based Hunters with 13 points on 3-of-6 from the three-point territory, and three rebounds in almost 15 minutes of action.
Vincent Nablo and France Angeles added nine points while James Manzano had six points and five rebounds.
The Hunters also got five points each from Aldrin Basibica, King Gallardo, Jared Sevilla, Johnver Lauzon and Toritseju Adams.
Hanz Yu led the the Pasay-based Green Eagles with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting, and five rebounds in 35 minutes of playing.
John Luigi De Leon and Jomar Yugto added 12 and 11 points, respectively and Kurt Meneses chipped in with nine points and five rebounds.
