Farmer held for gun ban violation

BONGABON, Nueva Ecija – A sedan-driving man was arrested after authorities found a pistol placed on his car dashboard during a gun ban checkpoint operation conducted here on Friday night.

In his report to acting Provincial Police Director Col. Jess B. Mendez, Police Head Major Nelson D. Sarmiento identified the arrested suspect as Francisco Dela Cruz, 41, farmer, of Bgy. Kaingin, in this town.

Checkpoint operatives led by Lt. Gladys Joy Cabiltes accosted the suspect after they saw a pistol on the dashboard of his white Hyundai Accent car while conducting checkpoint operations at the Poblacion area in Bgy. Kaingin at 10:30 p.m.

As a result, his men arrested the suspect and seized his Colt cal.45 pistol with two magazines containing 16 live bullets, according to Sarmiento.

The suspect is facing charges for violations of Republic Act 10591 and the Omnibus Election Code.
