POLICE Regional Office (PRO) 11 Director Brigadier General Benjamin H. Silo Jr. on Saturday announced the arrest of a “fake” National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agent in Southern Mindanao who yielded an unlicensed M-16 automatic rifle during an entrapment operation in Santo Tomas, Davao del Norte last Wednesday.

The official said the suspect was a 22-year-old businessman from Hacienda Del Sol, Feeder Road, Barangay Tibal-og in Santo Tomas municipality.

Silo said that the suspect is now facing criminal charges for robbery-extortion, usurpation of authority, and violation of the Republic Act (RA) 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2023.

The PRO 11 director said that at around 10 p.m. (January 25), members of the Santo Tomas Municipal Police Station and the NBI Region 11 Office arrested the suspect during a sting which led to confiscating an M-16 automatic rifle with two loaded magazines and the buy-bust money.

Also recovered were two polo shirts with “NBI” markings, a hand-held radio, and several counterfeit NBI IDs.

The suspect and the recovered pieces of evidence were brought to the Santo Tomas Police Station for proper disposition, said Silo.
