Fake birth certificates
ADMITTEDLY, thousands of foreign nationals hsve acquired Philippine citizenship through the use of fraudulent birth certificates.
That’s why these highly-enterprising foreign nationals managed to purchase vast tracts of land in various parts of the country.
In the Philippines, the 1987 Constitution, which is the fundamental law of the land, prohibits foreigners from owning lands.
We thus commend the leaders of the House of Representatives quad committee in addressing the problem.
Last Wednesday, the committee heads filed a bill which seeks to set up a body to investigate and cancel fake birth certificates.
Authors of the bill are Reps. Robert Ace Barbers, Bienvenido Abante, Dan Fernandez, Joseph Paduano, Romeo Acop and Gerville Luistro.
The bill is the third proposed legislation to emerge from the committee’s ongoing investigation into allete4d criminal activities linked to POGOs and the illegal drug trade.
Under House Bill No. 11117, the proposed committee will be chaired by the registrar general of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Committee members will come from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Justice and Office of the Solicitor General.
Hopefully, the proposed piece of legislation will deter the acquisition of fake birth certificates in the Philippines.
