Exploitation of kids
VARIOUS sectors of society fully support efforts to address the online proliferation of videos involving sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
What’s alarming is that these videos sell on social media channels for as low as P100, according to the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC).
CWC executive director Angelo Tapales attributed the decreasing cost of exploitative materials to its “high volume” online.
We, like other well-meaning Filipinos, share the view of Director Tapales that concerned authorities ought to hit hard at perpetrators.
The government must make it really very difficult for the perpetrators to conduct such activities if we are to decrease supply.
Thus, we cannot overemphasize the importance of going after unscrupulous parents and other relatives, who are the perpetrators themselves.
When these videos are uploaded on the internet for public consumption, Tapales said it could scar the children for life psychologically and mentally.
It is certainly lamentable and revolting to the senses that the children’s own family members act as facilitators of the crime.
“Talagang hindi katanggap-tanggap ang katwiran ng ilang kamag-anak na kinukunan lang naman nila ng video ang mga bata,” a village official said.
Well-meaning people ought to wake up to their responsibility to protect our youngsters, who are the hope of the land.
