Ex-rebel operating in 3 regions yields
LAOAG CITY – A top official of the “communist terrorist group (CTG) operating in Regions 1, 2, and Cordillera has renounced his membership in the underground movement.
In his report, Col. Julius Suriben, Ilocos Norte Police director, said that the former rebel, 58, farmer, operating within Baguio, Apayao, Kalinga, Cagayan, and Ilocos Norte, a native of Dumalneg, Ilocos Norte and presently residing at Sitio Malaggao, Adams, Ilocos Norte has surrendered thru revitalized “PNP Kasimbayanan” Program and PTF ELCAC.
Suriben said the former rebel yielded in a simple ceremony held at Sitio Malaggao, Adams, Ilocos Norte.
Suriben said the surrender of the suspect was thru the joint effort of Adams PNP (lead unit) and Tourist Police Unit together with IN-PIU, 1st PMFC-INPPO, PNP SAF, RMFB1, PIT, CIDG PFU IN, JTU Ilocos, 702nd Bgde, and NICA Ilocos Norte who facilitated the surrender and manifestation of support to the government of Alfredo Agoo pursuant to EO (Executive Order) No. 70.
“Said person was once deceived by the New People’s Army (NPA) led by commander then Agatep, and joined the NPA sometime in the year 1984 and named as Ka-Mon,” said Suriben.
The rebel’s first assignment was within the area of Baguio City, Kalinga, Apayao, Cagayan, and Ilocos Norte.
He acted as an intelligence officer of the NPA, and he was issued with BM-59/ M1 Garand rifle with 120 bullets.
“After several years of hardship and struggle, he desired for a peaceful life, and luckily escaped from the group and lived as a farmer at Sitio, Malaggao, Adams, Ilocos Norte. He buried his issued rifle until finally decided to surrender it, with the help of Kasimbayanan program of the PNP and PTF ELCAC with the intercession of Pastor Rafael Miguel of Bible Baptist Church,” reported Suriben.
The firearms surrendered will be submitted to Provincial Forensics Unit Ilocos Norte for ballistic and macro etching tests.
