GUMACA, QUEZON – A son of a former vice mayor of Gumaca was placed behind bars after he was allegedly caught with dried marijuana leaves at Barangay Tabing Dagat, in this coastal town, on Thursday.
Quezon Police Director Col. Ledon Monte said the 25-year-old suspect is a college student and resident of Bgy. Rosario, here.
Monte said the suspect is the son of a former town vice mayor who has been “out of the country” for years.
Town police commander Major Reden Romasanta said prior to the arrest, a security guard assigned at Southern Quezon Convention Center spotted the suspect allegedly “receiving” plastic sachets containing dried marijuana leaves from another suspect also from Bgy. Rosario.
Romasanta said the guard immediately called the police and relayed the information.
He said a police team rushed to the place and accosted the suspect while allegedly possessing the illegal drugs while the other suspect reportedly managed to escape.
The suspect yielded two plastic sachets and two folded papers containing dried marijuana leaves and seeds weighing around 25 grams.
Romasanta said the actual inventory of seized evidence was witnessed by Media representative Stephanie June Mabini Aguilar, Bgy. Councilmen Manolito Lakian and Adellio Barretto of the said village.
He said the suspect’s arrest would reduce drug proliferation in the town.
