THE “self-confessed” drug dealer Kerwin Espinosa was transferred from his cell at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Manila to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) prison facility in Bicutan, Taguig City, Prosecutor General Benedicto Malcontento disclosed on Tuesday.

“Filed in all courts the motion to transfer Espinosa where cases are pending. In fact, nalipat na siya sa Taguig,” Malcontento said.

“Not sure sa date, pero last week he was transferred,” he added.

Last January, Espinosa hogged the headlines when his attempt to escape from the NBI Detention Center in Manila was foiled by bureau agents and security personnel.

The NBI Security Management Service received information that on January 13, 2022, there would be a breakout thru the detention cell’s exhaust fan.

Security wasted no time and immediately conducted an inspection of the detention center. In one of the cells, they noticed a deformed exhaust fan, which when removed, exposed a hole fit for a detainee to escape.

Espinosa was removed from the government’s Witness Protection Program (WPP) as a result of the attempted escape.

He was a witness in the government’s war on drugs which allegedly claimed the lives of thousands of suspected drug dealers.

Espinosa, however, is facing a slew of drug-related charges before the Manila Regional Trial Court and a court in Albuera, Leyte.
