SENATOR-elect Francis “Chiz” Escudero vowed to help the present government of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who was sworn in today as the 17th President of the Republic of the Philippines.

Escudero said it is “high time” Filipinos hold hand in hand to fight poverty and the country’s many challenges amid the COVID-19 pandemic that hit the whole country.

Escudero assured that will help and work closely with the Marcos administration and his colleagues in the Senate to pass the government’s P5.2 trillion spending package for 2023 to pump prime the economy and provide the much-needed assistance to small businesses and the agriculture sector still hurting from the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Escudero was voted into office by more than 20 million Filipinos in the May 9 election to hand him his third fresh six-year mandate.

He served the Senate for two consecutive terms in 2007-2013 and 2013-2019.

The veteran legislator garnered 20.27 million votes and ranked 5th among more than 60 senatorial candidates who fought for the 12 seats in the last polls.

Escudero said he wants to be “the voice of the local government units” (LGUs) in the Senate when he returns to ensure that LGUs are empowered and autonomous as mandated in the 1987 Constitution and Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1992.
