Erring traders

THE country’s consumers, particularly the poorest of the poor, have often been at the “receiving end” of unscrupulous traders, particularly profiteers and hoarders.

In fact, it seems that money is all that matters to these heartless traders, who overprice their products, mostly basic necessities of life, beyond the reach of poor Filipinos.

But the problem is the lack of manpower resources of government offices and agencies tasked to protect the interest of the consuming public, notably in the countryside.

“Sa dami ng mga pribado at pampublikong tindahan sa buong bansa ay talagang hindi mababantayan ng gobyerno ang lahat ng mga ito,” according to a housewife.

That’s the reason why the country is still teeming with unscrupulous vendors.

Hopefully, however, the incoming administration of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. will take a stronger stand against hoarding and unwarranted price hikes.

To put an end to this “highway robbery,” the government should come up with stricter laws, rules and regulations.

And with the help of the ordinary but well-meaning consumers themselves, concerned government authorities ought to hit hard at these economic saboteurs.

Our beleaguered consumers have no option save to help the government in going after these “wolves” at a time when the people are confronted with so many problems.

Let’s punish these “economic saboterus” and give our suffering people a chance to make a new beginning under the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
