Erring cops
SINCE April 2024, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has dismissed a total of 753 police officers and men for various grave offenses.
Various quarters described the sacking of the policemen as “ample proof” that the government is determined to rid the PNP of scalawags.
Of the number, 493 were dismissed due to absence without official leave, 38 for use of illegal drugs, 18 for robbery and extortion, and 15 for carnapping.
The others were dismissed due to murder, rape, homicide and graft/malversation, according to reports.
Records also showed that from Jan. 1, 2022 to Feb. 12, 2025, 2,598 policemen were dismissed from the service.
Headed by Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, the PNP is the country’s premier law enforcement agency.
The police agency is civilian in nature but national in scope.=, enabling it to operate across the country, including far-flung communities.
Deputized by the Commission on Elections, the PNP is now in the forefront of government efforts to ensure the holding of free, honest and free elections on May 12.
With Marbil at the helm of the PNP, people expect our policemen to enforce our laws without fear or favor.
Tiyak ‘yon!
