Erring cops

THE government of President Marcos has vowed to pursue the nationwide war against the “drug monster.” which continues to terrorize the Filipino people, notably the youngsters.

And aware of the involvement of a few law enforcers in the illegal drug business, the government has called on all police generals and colonels to tender their courtesy resignations.

And reports said that 97 percent of the country’s 953 generals and full colonels have submitted their courtesy resignations, according to PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo.

But Secretary Benhur Abalos Jr. of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said the process does not end with the resignation or retirement of a police official.

Abalos was quick to explain that those who will be allowed to resign or retire are not yet off the hook, since they have to undergo a rigorous investigation and monitoring.

This, in the view of well-meaning people, is ample proof that the administration of President Marcos is out to punish erring cops.

“Huwag nilang akalain na kapag nagretiro sila ay lusot na sila. Hindi po. Tuloy-tuloy ang monitoring, tuloy-tuloy ang case build-up sa kanila,” warned the top DILG official.

A five-member committee, including Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong, will decide whether or not to recommend the resignation or retirement of a police officer.

The recommendations of the five-man panel will submit the recommendations to President Marcos.

In recommending the acceptance of resignation or retirement of said generals and colonels, the committee members and the National Police Commission will be guided by evidence.

This is to protect the innocent police generals and full colonels and make sure that only the guilty are punished.
